Medical

So according to the latest release from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics,  we looked over the list and sorted it by Annual Mean Wage.   There was definitely a pattern that emerged.  Of the top 20 Highest Paying Professions in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, 16 of them are in the Health Care industry.   These included careers such as

  • #1 Cardiologists - Average Salary of $362,730 and 400 employed in DFW.

  • #2 OBGYN - Average Salary $328,570 per year and 670 employed in the DFW area.

  • Just to name a few of those 16 that were found in the top 20.

So if you work in the Health Care Industry,  the Dallas Metro area will have a place for you and they pay pretty well.

The next highest paying profession in the DFW area that is NOT related to Health Care is Chief Executive.  This is not just the CEOs of companies,  but other management and high-level executives as was noted by the Bureau of Labor and Statistics.

Executives

Now according to the BLS,  Chief Executives do pretty well here in the DFW area:

  • They are the #4 Highest Paid Profession with an

  • Average Salary of over $296,840 per year

  • With the number of major corporations located here, there are about 1,570 of them in the DFW area.

As indicated my the Map on the screen,  Texas is in the Highest Tier for pay for this profession.

Aviation

Another one of the Highest paying professions in the Dallas Metro is our Pilots, our Co-Pilots, and Flight Engineers,  this would make sense since the DFW airport is ranked # 2 in terms of the busiest airport, its where American Airlines is based and you also have LOVE field where Southwest Airlines is based as well here in Dallas.

These professions are ranked #18 on the list in terms of average salary

  • With an Average annual salary of $213,010

  • And over 5,580 of them are employed in the Dallas Metro area

So if you do fall into this category,  you would be happy to know that Texas is the #1 state for Pilots in the entire country.

Lawyers

The fourth category for the Highest Paying jobs in the Dallas Metro are Lawyers.  This would make sense because of all the corporations,  and industries based here in the DFW area.   Everyone needs to have their legalese in their contracts.

Now lawyers came in at #21 on the list,  so while they are just shy of the top 20,  since the Health Care industry took up most of the top 20, we thought we would expand just a bit.

  • So Lawyers here in Dallas earn on average about $161,650

  • And there are roughly almost 15K of them employed in the area

  • Texas actually comes in at Fourth in terms of the amount of Lawyers with 43,850 in the state

And while its not the highest paying State in the Country,  it is still in the top tier.

Finance

So Lets turn our focus now to finance,  coming in at #22 on the list for highest paying jobs is Financial Managers,  the BLS describes this as: people employed in accounting, investing, banking, insurance, securities, and other financial activities whether it's in their own branch or office or within a specific department within a large corporation.

And with JP Morgan Chase, and Bank of America being some of the largest employers in the Dallas area this would definitely make sense.

  • This category averages a salary of $161,500

  • And there are around 17,000 employed in the DFW area.

  • Texas actually is the 3rd largest in terms of numbers of finance managers employed in the state.

  • And while Texas does NOT rank the highest in terms of average salary,  it is still in the TOP Tier of pay.

Information Systems Managers

Finally,  we are rounding it out our list with "Computer and Information Systems Managers".  This role is described by the BLS as people who work in such fields as electronic data processing, information systems, systems analysis, and computer programming. But does exclude your regular “Computer Occupations”"

  • The average salary in DFW for computer and information systems managers is $159,010

  • and there are roughly almost 16K employed in the area

  • Texas is actually the 2nd Largest Employer in this category, ranked just behind California.

  • Texas is not the TOP state in terms of pay either,  but they still pay in the top tier of salaries in the country.

So there you have it,  the list of the top-paying jobs and industries in the Dallas Metro area.
